About Chin Augmentation
Many people may not realize how much a short or small chin can affect the proportions of the face and throw off facial harmony. The same is true with a chin deemed too large, but these scenarios can be transformed with chin augmentation, or mentoplasty surgery. Houston, TX double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Anthony E. Brissett, can place a medical-grade implant into the chin to make it fuller in order to create a more distinctive profile and achieve a more proportionate appearance. During chin reduction surgery, Dr. Brissett can manipulate the chin bone to make a too large chin smaller. Chin augmentation can also be enhanced with other facial surgeries, such as rhinoplasty (nose surgery), or a facelift.
"During my visit at the Doctor's office, the customer service was over the top."- Anonymous / Office Visit / Jan 30, 2018
"67 Years Young - Seeing a doctor doesn't get better than this. I have been travelling from New York and now Maine once a year for at least 10 years so that Dr Brissett can maintain my youthful appearance since he did my face lift. The lift was amazing - no swelling and no bruising. How many people can brag about that? The results were so amazing ( nobody even knew I had one - no scars ) - everyone knew I looked great but they didn't know how I did it. So, when you have such an amazing doctor - why look elsewhere? He is the greatest!! I have total confidence in his work. And, he is always so cheerful and caring. And - he has a very caring staff that has been with him for years."- D. / RealSelf / May 22, 2018
"Ethical plastic surgeon - Dr. Brissett is incredibly professional and highly skilled. His office staff is also very warm and welcoming.I went in for a Kybella consultation. Dr. Brissett actually erred on the side of saying I didn't need it, which I found to be very ethical (compared to most doctors who will just try to upsell you). I insisted that I wanted it done, and we were both pleasantly surprised by how well the..."- K. / RealSelf / May 22, 2018
"Reconstruction of Nose - I was referred to Dr. Brissett for reconstruction surgery (flap procedure) on my nose after skin cancer was removed. I was very anxious about the procedure. Dr. Brissett took time to address all of my concerns. His kind, calm energy and faith made me feel like I was the most special patient he had! I trust him completely and the surgery results were fantastic!"- J.S. / RealSelf / May 14, 2018
"Dr. Brissett Saved My Face After Cancer! - I was told by my dermatologist that I had skin cancer on my nose and would need a Mohs surgeon to remove it. My Mohs Surgeon then told me that it was possible I would need plastic surgery to replace what she was going to have to remove from my nose (which was most of my nose). She referred me to Dr. Brissett who made me a promise the very first time I met him. He told me that his goal and..."- C. / RealSelf / Apr 30, 2018
The best candidates for chin augmentation surgery:
- Have a weak (too short) chin
- Have a weak chin due to genetics or trauma
- Have a nose that appears too large
- Desire a more proportionate look with greater facial harmony
- Desire a more distinctive profile
What to Expect
A patient will be under general anesthesia during chin surgery, and this outpatient procedure will be performed at an accredited surgical facility. The plastic surgeon will make a small incision either inside of the mouth or under the chin. An implant, which is made of biocompatible, medical-grade materials, will be placed carefully into the incision. After the implant is placed, the incision will be stitched up. If the incision was made in the mouth, a patient will experience no visible scarring. For incisions under the chin, the scar will be carefully hidden to avoid detection. The entire surgery takes around 1 hour to complete.
Right after chin augmentation surgery, a dressing will be applied to the chin where it should remain for 3 – 4 days. Patients can expect some pain, tenderness, and swelling. Also, patients can experience a tight, stretched sensation following surgery. These symptoms usually go away in about 1 week. After the swelling subsides in a few weeks, patients will be able to see the results of their surgery. The implant will look and feel like normal bone. More importantly, the implant will have the consistency of a patient’s natural tissue to make it appear more natural.

define your profile
A weak chin not only makes your profile look weak, but can also make your nose appear to be large and disproportionate. While some patients think they need a nose job, they may only need chin augmentation surgery to achieve full facial harmony and symmetry.
