About Chin Augmentation
Many people may not realize how much a short or small chin can affect the proportions of the face and throw off facial harmony. The same is true with a chin deemed too large, but these scenarios can be transformed with chin augmentation, or mentoplasty surgery. Houston, TX double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Anthony E. Brissett, can place a medical-grade implant into the chin to make it fuller in order to create a more distinctive profile and achieve a more proportionate appearance. During chin reduction surgery, Dr. Brissett can manipulate the chin bone to make a too large chin smaller. Chin augmentation can also be enhanced with other facial surgeries, such as rhinoplasty (nose surgery), or a facelift.

After meeting with Dr. Brissett, he expressed his concerns of the condition my nasal passages were in after several failed surgeries, but he also knew how..."- C. / RealSelf / Jul 23, 2018
"All of the comments said about Dr. Brissett are so true and more. I could go on for hours about Dr. Brissett. One very important distinguish criteria having to do with his practice is his staff. Having been married to the medical community I’ve had the opportunity to interact with a wide range medical staff and the staff will many times make or break even the best physicians. Andrea, Regina, Rachel and Roxana are not only personable and knowledgeable but they genuinely care about the patients. I hate to tell you how many years I’ve seen Dr. Brissett but he has almost 0 turn over during the time I have known him and I can totally understand why. Houston does have great doctors but they’re not as accessible/understanding of their patients needs/ etc. if The staff is not good."- M.F. / Google / Jul 19, 2018
The best candidates for chin augmentation surgery:
- Have a weak (too short) chin
- Have a weak chin due to genetics or trauma
- Have a nose that appears too large
- Desire a more proportionate look with greater facial harmony
- Desire a more distinctive profile
What to Expect
A patient will be under general anesthesia during chin surgery, and this outpatient procedure will be performed at an accredited surgical facility. The plastic surgeon will make a small incision either inside of the mouth or under the chin. An implant, which is made of biocompatible, medical-grade materials, will be placed carefully into the incision. After the implant is placed, the incision will be stitched up. If the incision was made in the mouth, a patient will experience no visible scarring. For incisions under the chin, the scar will be carefully hidden to avoid detection. The entire surgery takes around 1 hour to complete.
Right after chin augmentation surgery, a dressing will be applied to the chin where it should remain for 3 – 4 days. Patients can expect some pain, tenderness, and swelling. Also, patients can experience a tight, stretched sensation following surgery. These symptoms usually go away in about 1 week. After the swelling subsides in a few weeks, patients will be able to see the results of their surgery. The implant will look and feel like normal bone. More importantly, the implant will have the consistency of a patient’s natural tissue to make it appear more natural.

define your profile
A weak chin not only makes your profile look weak, but can also make your nose appear to be large and disproportionate. While some patients think they need a nose job, they may only need chin augmentation surgery to achieve full facial harmony and symmetry.
