The first of its kind, Kybella is an FDA-approved treatment used to target what is known as the “double chin,” the moderate to severe fat in the region beneath the chin. The nonsurgical injection uses deoxycholic acid, which is naturally found in the body, to breakdown and destroy fat cells so these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat. A number of small injections will be made in the fat under the chin during this outpatient procedure. If pain or discomfort will be an issue, a local numbing agent can be administered prior to a Kybella treatment. The treatment typically lasts around 15 – 20 minutes. Since 2 – 6 treatments are usually needed, they will be spaced out about a month apart. 

After Kybella, there is no downtime, but patients might experience mild pain, swelling, bruising, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness in the injection site. These side effects could last 2 – 3 days. Some patients may notice a reduction of fat after just a single treatment, but most patients will notice improvements after 2 or 3 treatments.

Am I eligible for a Kybella treatment?
There are a few factors that make you ineligible for Kybella injections. You must be over the age of 18 years old, not breastfeeding or pregnant, and cannot have any infections in or around your neck. Before the procedure is performed, you should share your medical history and health concerns with Dr. Brissett and our team so they can determine if you may be at risk for an adverse reaction from the treatment.

How many treatment sessions will I need?
Before starting your injections, our team will create a custom-tailored Kybella treatment plan to meet your cosmetic goals. Typically, patients get between 2 – 4 Kybella injections to attain the slimmer, more defined jawline they desire. Kybella injections must also be spaced around 30 days apart. You should not receive any more than six treatments.
